Frequently asked

Is Noqey really free?

Yes. The whole app is free, forever, with no account and no subscription. Later there will be an optional one-time purchase to support development, but the core stays free.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Noqey can transcribe entirely on your Mac with a local model, no internet needed. You can also bring your own OpenAI or Groq key for cloud transcription if you prefer.

How do I change the hotkey?

Click the Noqey icon in the menu bar, open Hotkey, and pick one of the presets or choose your own key.

How do I add my own API key?

Open Settings from the menu bar, pick your provider (OpenAI or Groq), and paste your key. There's a button that takes you straight to the page where you create one.

The text landed in the wrong place, or nowhere.

Don't worry, nothing is lost: your text is always already on the clipboard. If the cursor was somewhere else, or the window wasn't ready yet, click where you want the text and press Cmd-V. It's right there.

It records but nothing gets typed.

To paste text for you automatically, Noqey needs Accessibility permission. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Accessibility, and switch Noqey on. And even without that permission you lose nothing: your text is always on the clipboard, so you can still paste it with Cmd-V.

It says there's no microphone signal.

Another app (like FaceTime, Zoom, or Teams) is probably using your microphone. macOS only lets one app hold the mic during a call. End the call, or let Noqey use the mic, and try again. If an empty recording comes through, nothing is pasted and whatever you already had stays put.
